Nicholas Jian Media believes this video, has some very good food for thought. He makes the point that droids are taking our jobs, but he skips to the end when the world economies have assimilated all of the displaced and transitioned into a stable society. We have a long way to go and a big bumpy road to go down before that happens.
He skips over the very real truth that when the displacement comes, currently their is no group think as to what happens to the displaced. Back in the 80's the head of Ford Motors was taking the head of its labor union on a tour of one of the company's automobile plants. He made a crack about the new robots contemplated for the assembly line to the Union leader: "How are you going to get these new robots to join the Union?" The Union leader retorted: "How are you going to get these new robots to buy your cars?" Displaced works can't buy a thing and at that point you have no economy.
They say the new economy will be fueled by ideas. Well that has always been true. But as usual the eggheads leave the real hard stuff for us to figure out on our own. He talks about this poor fishing village in India which showed a marked increase in productivity because of the usage of cell phones. To me that is just the beginning. What happens when technology displaces the fishermen, like it's forecasted to do with economies all around the planet. What do the displaced do then? What does that fishermen do to feed his family? While the eggheads are slapping themselves on the back, because of the efficiency of their new droids.
Yea maybe in the long run, things will smooth out. However in the short run the newly displaced workers are what, left out in the cold to fend for themselves? "Entrepreneurial Collectivism" is where an individual can find help employing specific online systems and tools that will plug him into a community of like-minded souls that will produce a real income. This doesn't happen overnight, so the time is now to start learning and growing. What will you do when Robby the Robot taps you on your shoulder and sends you to the shower? Now you have a choice. You will not have one then.
